Community Services

Community Service is a non-paying activity that is performed by someone or a group of people for the benefit of the public or its institutions. Performing community service is not the same as volunteering, since it is not always performed on a voluntary basis. It may be performed for a variety of reasons:

  • It may be required as a substitution of, or in addition to, other criminal justice sanctions – when performed for this reason it may also be referred to as community payback.
  • It may be mandated by schools to meet the requirements of a class, such as in the case of service-learning or to meet the requirements of graduation.

Feeding The Homeless

UCAN runs a local Soup Kitchen from our building every Friday.  Our team of Volunteers start preparing food early every Friday morning to feed our local homeless in need.  After a nice warm meal, the homeless can shower and then are free to take any other provisions that have been so generously donated. In addition to feeding and clothing the needy, UCAN works closely with third party organizations, both governmental and non-profits.  Our team works hard to get additional services to those in need.   The Department of Mental Services as well as Social Security are just a couple of the relationships we developed over the years.
